Non-verbal communication –
Connect as a product evolved out of the understanding that monolingual travelers require a means to communicate with people in their host countries. Absence of Wi-Fi and cell phone battery being the catalyst, connect cards are the analog version of speech – made with universal signs and symbols for an objective understanding of their meaning. The travelers have different needs. And hence the cards are color-coded for ease of use. The blue card is printed with icons for basic amenities, the yellow for logistical needs and green for dietary needs. The user can point to the icons on the respective cards and procure the products and/or the services required.
The product evolved out of a process where the needs of the users are understood, the possible solutions are discerned, existing products are studied and the final solution is proposed. The product being user-oriented, the process vacillated between the user and the designer; between the needs and the “nice to have.” The product as a design is then injected into the eco-system of traveling as a catalyst.
After all, communication is the most important asset of a human being. And this product facilitates the same among people who do not share the same language.
